LINCOLN, Ala. – Associates at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA) today reached a production milestone at 7:05 a.m. with the completion of the 250,000th Odyssey minivan and V-6 engine built at HMA.
The production of the Havasu Blue 2004 EX model Odyssey equipped with leather interior comes less than 24 months after the start of mass production at the $580 million facility in November 2001.
“Once again, the nearly 3,000 associates at HMA have demonstrated world-class manufacturing capabilities in reaching this production milestone in such a short amount of time,” said Chuck Ernst, HMA plant manager. “We salute the accomplishments of our associates and their commitment to building products of the highest quality for our customers.”
Spurred by continued strong demand, Odyssey minivan sales have increased 6.6 percent so far this year. In August, the Odyssey set a new monthly sales record with 15,998 units sold.
In early 2004, HMA will finish construction on a $425 million second assembly line that will employ 2,000 associates and eventually double production capacity to 300,000 engines and vehicles per year.
When the expansion is completed, Honda’s Alabama facility will total more than 2.8 million square feet with approximately 4,300 associates and an investment exceeding $1 billion.
