"Ride For Kids" Event Tops $47,000

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Kids battling brain tumors received a big boost Sept. 25 as motorcyclists joined the 4th Annual Birmingham Ride for Kids.

The remnants of Hurricane Rita didn’t deter more than 250 participants and dozens of volunteers from Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC from gathering at the Pelham Civic Complex near

Birmingham. It was wet, windy and warm as the police-escorted ride went through the rolling hills and farms of rural Shelby County.

The riders then made their way to the Alabama Traffic and Safety Center, located on the campus of the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala.

Approximately $47,961 was raised during the event for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s medical research and family support programs.

The 2006 event is set for Sept. 17 and will start at the Barber Motorsports Park and Vintage Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham
